On our last evening in Barcelona, after a long day of touring around at Camp Nou and La Sagrada Familia, we hadn't yet made a dinner reservation for the evening. Finding a restaurant that can accommodate Lindsay's gluten intolerance can be a challenge, but after some online digging, we discovered RaĆ³, an edgy little spot serving great seafood and Spanish fare in the Gothic quarter. We booked a late table and headed out after a much needed nap from our lengthy adventures earlier in the day.
At the restaurant we were served by a delightful gentleman, originally from the UK. He recommended some great dishes for both of us to try and share. We had come during the last service of the evening, so eventually we had to leave, but we were not ready to go back to our apartment just yet. Our server then recommended a cool little spot, a few doors down, called La Whiskeria. A quaint and classic little Whiskey and Cocktail bar.
We ordered some delicious and complex cocktails, and watched the bar tenders' perfect choreography as they meticulously prepared ours and other patrons' drinks. We sat at the bar, sipping our cocktails talking of life, love, and our future together.
Near the end of our night, before we left the bar, it started to rain. Luckily, we had packed an umbrella for the evening. However, it became very challenging to find an available taxi cab. It was late at night on weeknight, and with it pouring cats and dogs, every cab we tried to hail was either full or already on the way to pickup a customer. We wandered through the streets, closely tucked under the umbrella, as we tried to keep as dry as possible. We were soaked, but it didn't really matter, because we were together.
We came to a spot designated for hailing a cab, and waited in line with a slew of other people trying to get a ride home. It was a long wait to reach the front of the line, but luckily a few groups in front of us gave up hope and walked on their way. While it was damp and a little cold, we didn't feel the weather, because we were tightly wrapped in each other's arms. It felt like the most romantic scene from a movie.
We reached the front of the line, and tried to hail at least 10 taxis, laughing heartily as each one passed us by, already full with other passengers. We were wet, but we didn't care, as long as we were together. A cab finally stopped a little down the street to let out their passengers, and we finally snagged a ride back to our Airbnb. When we looked at the time, we had been outside for over an hour and half, but the night had felt like it flew by. The streetlights in the rain created the most beautiful atmosphere and the loveliest backdrop to this evening. It was truly one of the most romantic evenings we have spent together.
We look forward to the day we get to return to Barcelona, and Spain, and explore more of this city, while creating new memories, and fondly remembering the nights like this one that we have already shared.
